BOXED EXPRESSIONS - PERSONALIZE YOUR WOODEN KEEPSAKE

This workshop focuses on transforming unpainted small wooden boxes into personalized works of art through creative decoration and mixed media techniques. Participants will explore various ways to enhance the natural wood surface, turning simple boxes into unique keepsakes or gifts.
Workshop Overview
Introduction to Materials and Tools
Participants receive unpainted wooden boxes and are introduced to materials such as acrylic paints, wood stains, decoupage papers, stamps, stencils, embellishments (beads, buttons, fabric), and adhesives.
Basic tools like brushes, sponges, and sandpaper are also provided.
Surface Preparation and Design Planning
Guidance on lightly sanding the boxes to smooth surfaces and prepare them for decoration. Participants brainstorm design ideas, considering themes, color schemes, and techniques they want to explore.
Decorative Techniques
Instruction on a variety of methods including:
Painting and staining to highlight the wood grain or add vibrant colors
Decoupage to apply patterned papers or images
Stenciling and stamping for texture and pattern
Adding three-dimensional embellishments for tactile interest
Creative Experimentation
Encouragement to mix techniques and materials, layering paint with collage or combining natural wood finishes with colorful accents. Participants can personalize their boxes with meaningful symbols, words, or abstract designs.
Finishing and Preservation
Sealing and protecting the finished artwork with varnish.

Create a sentimental, one-of-a-kind silk scarf made from the silk ties of your father, husband, brother or other beloved. Or use the beautiful tie options we have available.
You will create a beautiful silk scarves by transferring the dye and patterns from men’s silk ties onto a white 100% silk scarf. With a non-toxic process, we create a one of a kind, originals made and signed by each participant.
All materials provided. You'll take home an original, ready to wear silk printed scarf, 12" x 60" colorfast and washable. Workshops are air conditioned, bring a snack and a favorite beverage.

Surprise yourself with the endless possibilities of collage as you work with an eclectic mix of random paper scraps from my personal stash, as well as your own handmade gel prints and unique papers you’ve crafted using paints, markers, stencils, and more. Introduce your own personal marks, random gestural strokes with the brush or transparent or opaque color fields within or over your layers of collage,
You’ll learn design principles that will guide you in creating a stunning, multi-dimensional triptych that you will mount and take home with you at the end of the day.
