Date & Time:
Request a date. 1 pm to 4 pm
2-Day Workshop
Louise Nevelson’s inspired assemblage workshop offers participants a hands-on experience in creating three-dimensional art by assembling found objects and materials into cohesive sculptural compositions. Drawing inspiration from Nevelson’s iconic style, the workshop emphasizes the use of monochromatic color schemes, intricate layering, and the transformation of everyday items into abstract, unified works of art.
Workshop Overview
Introduction to Louise Nevelson’s Art
Explore the life, artistic philosophy, and signature techniques of Louise Nevelson, focusing on her pioneering role in assemblage art and her use of wooden objects painted in a single color to create dramatic shadow and depth.
Materials and Techniques
Participants gather a variety of found objects such as wood scraps, metal pieces, and discarded household items. The workshop covers methods for cleaning, arranging, and securely attaching these elements to build complex, textured assemblages.
Composition and Design Principles
Instruction on how to balance form, texture, and space within the assemblage. Emphasis is placed on creating harmony through repetition, rhythm, and the strategic use of negative space, mirroring Nevelson’s approach.
Painting and Finishing Touches
Guidance on selecting and applying monochromatic paint finishes, typically black, white, or gold, to unify the assemblage and enhance its sculptural qualities.
Creative Exploration and Personal Expression
Encouragement for participants to experiment with their own themes and narratives while maintaining the structural and aesthetic principles inspired by Nevelson’s work.
What you’ll learn:
Practical skills in assemblage art techniques
Understanding of Louise Nevelson’s artistic legacy and influence
Experience in transforming ordinary objects into compelling abstract sculptures
Confidence in using color and form to create unified art pieces
This workshop is ideal for art enthusiasts interested in sculpture, mixed media, and modern art techniques, providing a rich creative environment to explore the possibilities of assemblage inspired by one of the 20th century’s most influential sculptors.
Each student will go home with a small abstract assemblage ready to hang on your wall.
